Building Better Opportunities!

The big national push for nursery places for 2 year olds means demand for nursery places is increasing at a dramatic rate in Walsall. And with First Friends Day Nursery high on the popularity list of where parents want to place their little ones, we are making massive improvements to our facilities.

We have successfully applied for funding and this week started building enhancement work to our fabulous First Friends site in Pelsall Lane.

We have the full support from Walsall EYFS for the ‘new-build’ which will increase capacity for up to another 20 children (2 year olds) and provide a meeting and training space for children, parents and family learning activities as well as an on-site kitchen.

A recent study demonstrated that two year olds who attended high quality childcare made more progress than children from similar backgrounds that remained at home or attended lower quality provision. The quality of childcare can make a big difference to the development of young children, especially the most vulnerable – and at First Friends we take quality to the highest level.

There is further evidence that early education makes a positive difference to young children. The Effective Provision of Pre-school Education study found that high quality early education has particularly strong impacts on the cognitive and social development of disadvantaged children, and that these benefits last throughout primary school.

Building work will take several weeks and we hope to publish regular news on how the development is progressing.
