Volunteering - Investing in Success!

Our investment in volunteers has reaped rich rewards this month when Manor Farm Community Association became the first voluntary organisation in Walsall to gain the prestigious ‘Investment in Volunteers’ award.

The local charity joined the ‘high achievers’ club through a rigorous assessment process and welcome the award which recognises the valuable contribution made by local people to the communities of Walsall.

Investing in Volunteers Assessor Jane Holdsworth said, ‘This is an award that is really well deserved. It is clear that the volunteers are passionate about their work and are well supported by the organisation. You have all come a long way in such a short time. Well done!’

Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for all organisations which involve volunteers in their work. Over 650 organisations have achieved this quality accreditation throughout the UK, ranging from small community groups that are totally volunteer-led to large national multi branch charities that have thousands of volunteers.

‘This is a proud moment for our association and reflects well upon the dedication and commitment of both staff and volunteers alike’ said Chief Executive Gary Bird. ‘We truly believe in empowering local people and supporting them in the growth and development of their own community. Volunteering is very fulfilling whatever the age, the skills volunteers may have or the circumstances why they have time on their hands. We provide people with opportunities that meet their needs and those of the community we serve.’

The award is valid for three years and will be an ideal opportunity to celebrate with our volunteers whilst developing and sustaining the good practice we have implemented through the Investing in Volunteers process.

Manor Farm currently has nearly 50 registered volunteers who support gardening projects, befriending schemes with older people, catering clubs, our allotment project and much, much more.

Community Co-ordinator Diana Southall said, ‘All sorts of people volunteer, and for many different reasons. But one thing that unites them all is that they find it varied, challenging and rewarding.’

Diana also added, ‘We are constantly looking for new volunteers and are committed to supporting, enabling and celebrating volunteering in all its diversity. We welcome enquiries from anyone who would like to offer a few hours each week in a variety of different ways.’
