Older People Enjoying Regular Activities!

We've just heard about some new and exciting activities down at nearby Rushall Centre.  It's called OPERA but ... it's got nothing to do with music!!

Follow this link to see this great group in action.

They are trying to start up a wide range of leisure activities that will focus on health and well-being of older people in Walsall.  If their dream comes true they will be delivering everything from crazy 'Golden Golf' to strictly 'Come Dancing Again!'

There really will be no excuse if they can attract funding support as senior citizen Alex White [pictured in the movie] spoke for the Rushall group, 'We want to put on loads of great things for older people to do.  Sports and games as well as leisure activities that keep the body fit and that can train the brain. We'll all be old one day - we are going to get there the healthy way!'

Weight management, smoking cessation, alcohol reduction support, crafty cooking, one-stop health clinics, Tai Chi, massage and meditation, stress reduction, coping strategies and relaxation techniques are all on the agenda along with armchair exercise, walking sports and even aerobics for those who feel suitably energetic!

The forward thinking community group intend to seek professional help from sports instructors, health coaches and medical centres but also hope to actually deliver many of the programmed activities themselves.  As Alex said, 'We want to be responsible for our own health and that means trying to do stuff for ourselves.  We'll get there and we'll have a lot of fun getting fit!'

Rushall OPERA - Older People Enjoying Regular Activities.  It may have nothing to do with music but it is one opera that will have a lot of local people singing with pleasure!

We wish everyone connected with the Rushall Centre OPERA every success with this great community project.
